New Years Eve Bonfire - Burn and Bury

The bonfire dances as a crowd enters the field.

There is a sign in the clearing:

Take 3 pinecones from the basket. The first pine cone is to burn away the old year. The second is to wish in the new year. And the third is a gift to the world.

You may do what you wish with the pinecone if you don't have something to match with its representation -- keep it or toss it in the flames without a guide.

This year has not been a good one, in many ways, not the great and wonderful one people here hoped for at the ending of 2008, but because we are optimists we still hope that 2010 will be better than this year was.

There are several new people here, and several important lessons were learned. So saying, we toss our pinecone in the fire to burn away the negative of the past year and in so doing provide room for new hope to grow.
